The Sixth Annual Wine, Waves and Beyond Longboard Contest was held on Saturday May 3rd. at the Pismo Pier. It was an all day event, with surfers coming from near and far to compete for the claim of best in class. Once again, this year Ted Emerick created beautiful glass trophies that he hand created in his studio in Los Osos. Ted is a renowned artist here on the Central Coast and always comes up with some uniquely beautiful sculptures.
There actually was a great swell for this event, with large waves and many close out bombs that kept all the competitors on their toes all day, and which made for some very interesting and exciting surfing.
At the awards ceremony we were all treated to some great music from local stand out Reggae Band; Resignation. These guys rock and most people from six to sixty up and dancing in the sand, myself included!
I had a great time covering this event and look forward to next years contest. If you have never attended Wine, Waves and Beyond, its a week long celebration. So try and check it out next year, you won't be disappointed. Remember my creedo: "Stay Stoked, and Stay Forever Young." ... Da Lieb
