Yesterday my friend Ken Manfred and I decided to spend the day together shooting photos in a few different environments. Ken wanted to go up to his Ranch which is Monterey county to make sure his solar powered well was working, so we left pretty early and first stop was chicken friend steak, eggs, home fries and toast for breakfast!. Headed up to the Ranch after grinding, and after a couple of hours driving, most of the last part was on single track dirt roads, we arrived at El Rancho Manfred!
Ken has it all hooked up for staying there in comfort, a fully self contained travel trailer, 100 gallon per minute well with pure water, 3g service and vistas that are jaw dropping. There are some very large and magnificent veins of rocks all around the Ranch. We didn't spend that much time there as we were both andy to get over to the coast to photograph the pod of Humbacks that have been frolicking near shore.
We arrived at the coast and went straight to the Pier, and it was obvious by the huge crowds that the whales were there. Walking out to the end of the pier, turns out only the juvenile was there doing his thing. The baby was very active and it was really neat to see a humpback from about fifteen feet away at times. Making photographs of whales is a bit hard, because one never knows where they will pop up, and they can cover fifty yards under water in a few seconds.
All in all, we both had a great time, and I must admit that Ken got the best photos of the whale! It was a very enjoyable day, spending time with a great friend. Thanks Ken for the invite.
